Eligibility
Scholar/Athletes must have at least a 2.0 GPA for the previous semester of school. Students who are not eligible under the 2.0 GPA rule may file an Co-Curricular Appeal in the Athletics Office if they feel there were unusual and extenuating circumstances that caused their low grades. This Academic Co-Curricular Appeal is a ONE TIME option for all of high school.
Student eligibility is established at each marking period, quarter, and end of the term.
- Fall Athletes are eligible on the basis of the spring semester grades (for freshmen, the spring term of the 8th grade) and maintain their eligibility on the basis of the first quarter grades.
- Winter Athletes are eligible on the basis of the first quarter grades and maintain their eligibility on the basis of their first semester grades.
- Spring Athletes are eligible on the basis of their first semester grades and maintain their eligibility on the basis of the third quarter grades.
Transfers
If you are already a high school student-athlete considering transferring to NPHS, CIF Southern Section (our area’s athletics governing body) requires families to complete paperwork before becoming eligible. CIF-SS requires that students be residents of their school area and that they have eligibility for the eight semesters of their high school career. Please complete the CIF transfer form – Submit directly to NPHS Athletics Office, not CIF.
Additionally, if your family unit is moving to a new address, there are additional requirements for your transfer to be processed as a Valid Change of Residence to be eligible without having to sit out of varsity competition for the first half of the season. Please also complete the Valid Change of Residence Documentation Checklist – Submit all supporting documentation directly to NPHS Athletics Office, not CIF.
Please consult the CIF-SS Blue Book for all details regarding transfer, or see the Athletic Director at NPHS. Failure to meet CIF-SS or CVUSD rules results in forfeiture of all games in which the ineligible player has participated.
Athletic Clearances
All athletes must have a physical or Sports Clearance Examination prior to their participation in tryouts for a sport. Both the student and the parent should be aware that every athletic practice and contest has the statistical possibility of resulting in a serious injury or even death to an athlete. Athletes are free to use their own private physicians, but we require they use our Athletic Clearance Form, which is available in the Athletics Office or on this webpage for download.
Parent Consent and Code Conduct
The CVUSD Co-Curricular Code of Conduct must be signed on athleticclearance.com before an athlete may participate. Every athlete and his/her parent should read these forms carefully and agree to the requirements since there are severe penalties for athletes who violate them.
Gender Diversity & Participation in Athletics
All students should have the opportunity to participate in CIF activities in a manner that is consistent with their sex identity, irrespective of the sex listed on a student’s records. Should any questions arise whether a student’s request to participate in a sex-segregated activity consistent with his or her sex identity is bona fide, a student may seek review of his or her eligibility for participation by working through the procedure set forth below: Once the student has been granted eligibility to participate in the sport consistent with his/her sex identity, the eligibility is granted for the duration of the student’s participation and does not need to be renewed every sports season or school year. All discussion and documentation will be kept confidential, and the proceedings will be sealed unless the student and family make a specific request. Click HERE for more information.
